The official launch of the 2024-2025 edition of the Programme de gestion des animaux morts à la ferme (PGAMF) was announced by Éleveurs de porcs du Québec on July 12. On a first-come, first-served basis, this new round of funding offers pork producers the opportunity to improve the management of animal carcasses on the farm while also reducing the risks related to the biosecurity of breeding sites. In this way, the efficient management of mortalities is not just a regulatory obligation; animal welfare and business profitability can also be improved.

Available Financing for Mortality Composting at Each Production Site
Section 4 of the program focuses on ‘mechanical composting’ and provides assistance for the acquisition of composting equipment such as the rotary composters manufactured by Brome Compost. For each accepted project, the program covers 50% of project-related expenses, up to a maximum of $40,000. It should be noted that the program requires one application per production site, not per applicant, which is an advantage if you own or operate several sites.
Other program details and deadlines:
- The program takes effect as of July 12 and ends on December 31, 2025, or when the credits run out, whichever comes first.
- Applications must be submitted to Éleveurs de porcs du Québec no later than November 15, 2025.
- Approved projects will be announced 2 to 4 weeks after the application’s submission.
- Projects will be evaluated according to the level of biosecurity and site cohabitation issues involved, as well as the relevance and effectiveness of the proposed solution.
