Ferme Luc Loranger acquired a BROME 616 rotating composter back in 2012.
Mr. Loranger’s objective at the time was to no longer rely on the services of a renderer, in order to minimize the risk of spreading pathogens and contaminants on his farm. Like many pig farmers, biosecurity was a major concern. Better odor management was another important factor in the decision to start composting mortalities on the production site.
A BROME 616 composter that continues to perform as well as ever
Today, that very same BROME 616 is still in operation. Kim Loranger, daughter of Luc Loranger and an entrepreneur in the pork industry in her own right, says they ” just wouldn’t do without it.” It works as well as ever, with some minor modifications over the years to adapt it to their facilities as they evolved.
A simple, effective composting system
According to Ms. Loranger, a BROME rotating composter is an excellent investment and offers a major security benefit: it’s not only extremely practical for disposing of mortalities, but also placentas. What’s more, the time required to operate the composter is minimal. For her, it has effectively become an essential tool on the farm.
Brome Compost and its entire team are proud to have accompanied Ferme Luc Loranger in the realization of their composting project, and to have contributed to the success of local agricultural enterprises. You can learn more about their original composting project here.
Thank you to Kim Loranger for taking the time to give us an update and discuss her composter with us!
