Thanks to a subsidy from Agiculture and Agri-Food Canada, Le Centre de recherche en science animale de Deschambault (CRSAD), is exploring the composting of manure for the production of safe bedding for dairy cows. A composter from Brome Compost is used to help with this research! The goal of this research project is to demonstrate that recycled manure, through composting, can be used to provide a sanitized bedding that helps to improve the health of the dairy cattle and the quality of their milk. By composting manure, pathogens are controlled and the health of the cow’s mammary glands is improved. The cow and its milk both have something to gain.
